A farewell programme was organized on 19th of September for volunteer Miss Ilona van de Vijver from Belgium, who was helping at our Women Centre though teaching English language since 2nd week of August. The women and the volunteer teachers had joyful day with fun, feast and movie. An Indian movie “English Vinglish” was screened at the centre according to Iliona’s wish.
Films are not just meant for entertainment but also serve as a strong motivating force. Indian movie “English Vinglish” is a big motivation and confidence booster for the women who are trying to learn English language despite of all odds.
“English Vinglish” focuses on a young woman who doesn’t understand English and is made to feel insecure by her family and society at large. Circumstances make her determined to overcome this insecurity, master the language and teach the world a lesson on the way to becoming a self-assured and confident woman.
The positive vibe we felt that day encourages us to organize such events in the future on a more regular basis.
The main purpose of this programme is to motivate the ladies to learn English, make their children & family members proud of and also get respect in the society.
Volunteer Society Nepal would like to thank our volunteer Aniek Cranen and Ilona Van de Vijver to make such a wonderful plan and also for the support they have provided at the Women Centre.
Miss Ilona donated the goods worth Nepalese Rupees 28,805 to the Sushila Orphanage & Women Centre. (Clothes & shoes worth Nep Rupees 13400 for small kids at Sushila orphanage, clothes worth Nep Rupees 10000 for elder children at Sushila orphanage and food & furniture worth Nep Rupees 5405 at Women Centre.)
